bags.jpg About a year ago, we first told you about Massachusetts’ efforts to reduce plastic bag consumption

According to the Boston Globe, a new report indicated that the state’s 2013 goal to reduce plastic bag consumption by 33% has already been reached.

What does this mean? Simply this: Massachusetts’s residents are taking home their groceries in reusable shopping bags.

A dozen supermarket chains comprising nearly 400 stores around Massachusetts have been voluntarily tracking the number of paper and plastic bags they use. Many stores are selling their own custom reusable grocery bags, and some offer customer incentives to use their reusable bags.

We salute the state of Massachusetts for undertaking this effort back in 2007. More importantly, we applaud its residents for their efforts to remember their reusable bags. The environment thanks you!
