Environmental
Information
Nonwoven
polypropylene is a plastic based product that may be recycled at the end of its
life. The post consumer component of
this bag is important, because it creates a market for recycled plastic. Snaps,
inserts, grommets etc must be removed prior to.
This material is commonly found in healthcare, packaging and floor
covering industries.
Advantages: The #1 advantage
of nonwoven polypropylene is cost – it is currently the least expensive fabric
on the market. The low cost makes it
easy for people to get in the habit of bringing their own bag. Nonwoven polypropylene is lightweight,
durable, recyclable, hypoallergenic, non-toxic and water repellent. Each bag is large enough to replace 2-3
disposable plastic bags per week.
Disadvantages: While this fabric is recyclable, the process of
recycling does consume resources and money.
If this bag ends up in a landfill instead of a recycling bin, it can
take 500+ years to breakdown. This bag
is not recommended for machine washing/drying - which may reduce the lifespan
of the bag. Nonwoven polypropylene
almost always comes from China,
which consumes fuel for shipping.
